The north viewing deck outside the Arboretum Visitors Centre will be closed for maintenance starting Monday 25 August. Access will remain available via the northern doors during this time. Maintenance work is also happening around the Children's Garden.
The National Arboretum Canberra is a mosaic of living forests and gardens with one of the world’s largest living collections of rare, endangered and significant trees. More than 44,000 trees from over 100 countries grow across the site in a significant contribution to the challenges of climate change, deforestation and extinction. How to get involved
The National Arboretum Canberra offers several ways for people to engage in our eco-sustainability efforts:
Volunteering: become a Volunteer to participate in tree planting, maintenance, and guided tours.
Become a Friend: Join the Friends of the National Arboretum Canberra, membership funds are invested back into National Arboretum projects. As a Friend, you can also participate in tree planting, maintenance, and guided tours.
Educational Programs: Attend workshops and educational events to learn about sustainable practices and the importance of biodiversity.
Donations and Sponsorships: Support the Arboretum’s sustainability projects through financial contributions or sponsorships.
Eco-friendly Visits: Practice eco-friendly habits during visits, such as minimising waste, recycling, exploring the 20km of tracks and trails, and respecting wildlife and their habitats.

The Arboretum was honoured to receive two awards at the Canberra Region Tourism Awards, winning in the categories of 'Ecotourism' and 'Excellence in Accessible Tourism'.
The National Arboretum continues to go from strength to strength, achieving EcoStar Accreditation with Quality Tourism Australia, and a score of 99% on the Ecotourism Australia 'Strive 4 Sustainability' scorecard. These achievements recognise our continuous aim for sustainability whilst maintaining high quality, memorable EcoTourism experiences for all.
Today marks the launch of the Green Track Prototype for the Canberra Light rail Stage 2A, a 12 month test exploring the design, construction and maintenance of green tracks that will preserve and strengthen the character of Commonwealth Avenue and enhance Canberra's urban aesthetic.
Today, Wollemi pines donated to the Arboretum by the Friends of the Arboretum were planted in Forest 32, marking a significant milestone throughout a project which also involved seed collection, germination, and scientific study.
