Moisture sensor monitoring

Following a two and a half year trial, the National Arboretum has permanently adopted a ground-breaking soil monitoring system designed by the University of Canberra.

The Smart Soil Moisture Monitoring Sensor System is installed in 10 of the 94 forests at the Arboretum Canberra to help the horticulture team manage the unique water requirements of each tree species.

The system’s deep sensor probes and advanced technology enable easier monitoring of ground moisture for each individual tree, accessible in real time via hand-held devices. The system measures insufficient or excessive moisture in the ground, allowing for more efficient water use throughout the site.
