The National Arboretum Canberra is supported by a passionate and dedicated group of volunteers who generously share their time, knowledge and skills to enhance our projects and events. With activities as diverse as our volunteers themselves, there’s sure to be a role that benefits from your unique knowledge and life experience. Our volunteers make an invaluable contribution to the Arboretum, and we deeply value their support.
New volunteers are always welcome. No previous qualifications are necessary, and training and insurance is provided for all activities.

There are many ways you can volunteer:

Guides

Welcome visitors with an introduction to the Arboretum, or guide groups through the forests on extended walks.

Bonsai & Penjing

Introduce visitors to the ancient arts of Bonsai & Penjing and help maintain one of the finest collections in Australia.

Gardening

Turn your green thumb into a helping hand! Help care for over 40,000 trees at regular forest & garden working bees.

Harvest Group

Collect fresh produce from our gardens & forests or turn them into delicious delicacies that help fund projects around the Arboretum.

Citizen Science

Choose from a variety of research projects and data collection including frog watch, seed collection or tree monitoring.

Events

Help our staff deliver vibrant educational and seasonal events that bring the whole community together.

Warm Trees

Knit, create and decorate the Arboretum with woolly contibutions to 'Warm Trees', one of the largest knitted forest installations in the world.

Administration

Support the volunteer programs with data input, cataloguing, training support and writing.
