There is an avenue of trees at the National Arboretum Canberra where selected Australians are recognised for their contribution to the fabric of our society and have distinguished themselves in their field of endeavour.

Today, Melissa Doyle AM, an acclaimed and award-winning journalist and passionate ambassador to children’s charities, was recognised by the ACT Government with an Australian Hero Tree Dedication in Central Valley.

Melissa's journey began as a television news reporter and weather presenter in Canberra, and her career has been nothing short of inspiring. From covering historic events such as the Olympic Games, royal weddings, and major news stories, to her role as co-host of Sunrise, Melissa's voice and face have become synonymous with reliable information and heartfelt storytelling.

Beyond her professional achievements, Melissa's commitment to the community is unparalleled. She's a member of the Order of Australia (AM), recognised for her significant service to charitable groups and the broadcast media.

As a National Patron for the Make A Wish Foundation and an Ambassador for various organisations including World Vision, The Alannah and Madeline Foundation, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Adopt Change, Melissa exemplifies the spirit of giving back. Her dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of others shines bright, illuminating the path for future generations.

A Hoop pine, 𝘈𝘳𝘢𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢 𝘤𝘶𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘪, was dedicated to Melissa  by Minister Chris Steel MLA, Special Minister of State. This tree stands proud on the Central Valley grass tiers, representing her dedication to many facets of Australian life.

Following the ceremony, Melissa along with her son Nick, enjoyed a tour of the Arboretum's highlights.

It was truly delightful to acknowledge an exceptional Australian who has not only left an enduring imprint on the realm of media but has also wholeheartedly devoted herself supporting children's causes.
