On Tuesday 22 July 2019, the Honourable James Marape MP, Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea and Mrs Rachael Marape planted a Magnolia grandiflora ‘Alta’ (Magnolia Alta) alongside Ms Joy Burch MLA in the Central Valley at the National Arboretum Canberra. Ms Joy Burch MLA spoke of the close ties between our two nations and how the growing tree represents the continued growth of the Australian and Papua New Guinea relationship.

Magnolia grandiflora ‘Alta’ is a slender medium size tree which grows up to 9 meters in height. It produces elegant cup-shaped, striking, fragrant white flowers in summertime.
