His Excellency Professor Doctor Boediono, Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia and Madam Herawati Boediono - 12/11/2013

On 12 November 2013, the Minister for Territory and Municipal Services, Shane Rattenbury, joined the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Professor Dr Boediono, for a ceremonial tree planting at the National Arboretum Canberra.

The Vice President and his wife, Madam Herawati Boediono, planted a kemloko tree, Phyllanthus emblica, in the Central Valley of the National Arboretum. The kemloko joins 48 other rare and symbolic trees planted in Central Valley by international and Australian dignitaries and well known public figures.

The kemloko is a small to medium sized deciduous tree that grows in a large area across South, South-east and East Asia. It can grow up to 15 metres high with green and yellow flowers and greenish-yellow fruit. The fruit is nearly spherical, smooth and hard in appearance, with six vertical stripes or furrows and sour to taste.
