Voices in the Forest Concert Launch and sod turning for the new Visitors Centre
On the 23 March 2011, Chief Minister Jon Stanhope MLA, welcomed the Ambassador of Sweden Sven-Olof Peterssen and Mrs Anita Peterssen to the turning of the first sod on the Arboretum’s Visitors Centre and launch of the Voices in the Forest.
At the event Mr Bob Winnel, CEO of the Village Building Company, handed over a $250,000 cheque to Mr John Mackay, Chair of the Board of the Arboretum, as a second tranche of the Village Building Company's $1 million sponsorship to the building of the Visitors’ Centre, which is expected to be completed in May 2012.
The glorious voices of Christina Wilson and Louise Page helped launch the event as they sang the Flower Duet from Lakme before the invited guests and dignitaries.
Lovers of fine music and great views are in for a double treat in Canberra later this year when the National Arboretum hosts its first major cultural event – Voices in the Forest, which is being sponsored by the Village Building Company.
The concert on November 12 2011 will be staged in the Arboretum’s natural amphitheatre which provides a stunning vista over Lake Burley Griffin and the city.
