Prince Frederik and Princess Mary of Denmark - Field Maple Tree - 22 November 2011

On Tuesday, 22 November 2011, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark joined the Chief Minister Ms Katy Gallagher MLA in planting a Field maple at the top of the Central Valley of the National Arboretum Canberra.

Their Royal Highnesses were invited to plant a tree during their visit to Canberrra. Despite the rainy and cold weather the guests were delighted to engage with the Royal couple prior to the tree planting ceremony, with the Royal couple stopping to talk to as many people as possible, including the small group of school children who presented Princess Mary with a book for each of her children.

The Field maple is native to much of Europe, north to southern England, Denmark, Poland, Belarus, Asia, North Africa, North America and Australia where it is sometimes called the Common Maple. A tough, adaptable tree tolerant of a wide range of site conditions, it is excellent for street planting and especially useful for smaller landscaped areas.
