Scott Saddler – Member of the Order of Australia


On June 8 2020, the Governor-General announced the Queen’s Birthday 2020 Honours List, recognising 933 Australians for their contributions to their community, to Australia globally or domestically.

Scott Saddler, Executive Branch Manager for the National Arboretum Canberra and Stromlo Forest Park, was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to public administration, and as a supporter and mentor of Indigenous youth.

Scott, a Wiradjuri man, has been a long-term mentor for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and currently mentors a number of employees across the ACT Government and also leads the CMTEDD Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Staff Network.

Scott is also a representative on the Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Working Group. This working group focuses on Chief Minister Treasury Economic Development Directorates commitment to reconciliation through collaboration and building partnerships that make a difference.

Having joined the Arboretum in 2014, Scott has been instrumental in the vision, the growth and the continuing success of the Arboretum.

Scott was the driving force behind the establishment of the Bush Tucker Garden at the National Arboretum Canberra in the area of Southern Tablelands Ecosystem Park (STEP) Forest 20. The garden include plants used by Ngunnawal people for food, fibre, hunting, and medicines and includes a dedicated weaving area.
