What to wear and bring

The majority of walking is through the forests, and on unsealed paths. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to get off the beaten track, climb slopes, challenge themselves, improve motor skills and have a lot of fun.

Please bring

In warm weather, visitors are advised to wear light, long-sleeved tops, light, long trousers in warm weather and a wide-brim hat to protect skin from the sun. In cold weather, visitors are advised to wear warm, windproof clothing and a hat. It’s also important to note the National Arboretum can get very windy in any season and to dress accordingly.

The Arboretum has many unsealed tracks and uneven, rocky surfaces. Sturdy, enclosed shoes must be worn at all times.

Prepare against sunburn and windburn by ensuring sunscreen has been applied and is available for re-application. Please ensure all students bring a hat.

Rainy weather

If rain looks likely on the day of your visit, please ensure everyone brings a raincoat. Programs will still run in the event of light rain. Our onsite Education Officer will contact the event organiser in the event that the program needs to be cancelled or rescheduled due to bad weather.
